Several web hosts provide web space on a server they own. Such a service is known as website hosting. You can thus buy or share web space and thereby start your own website. The various types of web hosting services that are available include shared web hosting, dedicated web hosting, managed web hosting and reseller web hosting. Let us discuss shared web hosting and reseller web hosting.

Shared web hosting: As the name suggests two parties can share the same web space on a host’s server. There are two types available: a) Free shared hosting and b) Paid shared hosting.

Unlike paid shared hosting, free shared hosting does not come with MySQL and PHP support. With free sharing the bandwidth and disk space is limited, too. However, free shared hosting can be a good option to experiment new ideas while paying nothing to the web host company.

Shared web hosting does not require any knowledge of website building. And, paid shared hosting comes with multiple e-mail, MySQL and PHP support. It costs less, too.

Reseller web hosting: Reseller web hosting means buying web space and then reselling it. Reselling web space can be done in two ways:

- You buy web space and sell it to someone. Here, you act as the web host. However, all the customer’s queries and problems are not solved by you but by the web host organisation.
- You buy huge amounts of web space and bandwidth. You then make reseller packages and resell parts of the huge web space. In such a case, the customer calls you for any technical support. You should make sure that the web host is active twenty-four hours in case of urgent technical support. You don’t require any technical knowledge as the reseller is only responsible for interfacing with the customer base; the hardware, software and the connectivity problems are treated by the web hosting company.
