Website hosting is a service which provides space on the web to start a website. A person can rent space on the web and thus create an online identity. The various types of web hosting services that are provided over the web include shared web hosting, dedicated web hosting, managed web hosting, reseller web hosting, and more. These are provided by the various online web hosting organisations.
Shared web hosting: As the name suggests two or more parties can share the same web space on the host’s server. Under such kind of hosting, there are two types:
a) Free shared hosting
b) Paid shared hosting.
Unlike paid shared hosting, free shared hosting does not tend to provide services like MySQL and PHP support. Also, the bandwidth and disk space is much more limited. However, free shared hosting can be chosen as an option to experiment new ideas while paying nothing to the host as well.
Reseller web hosting: A person buys space from a web hosting company and sells to someone else in need of web space, or simply uses it to host multiple websites of their own. This person uses the allotted hard drive space and bandwidth. They can thus host websites on behalf of the web-hosting company.
The reseller here acts like the host and markets to re-sell the space which has been bought. The client will thus call the reseller and not the web hosting company for any details. Such a kind of web hosting does not require any technical knowledge as the reseller is only responsible for interfacing with the customer base; whereas the hardware, software and the connectivity problems being treated by the web hosting company.
